I have said more than once that my goal was to post once a week about all the things we do in the Knight ES Media Center. I have started several times and failed to stick with it. Making a weekly post is now on my calendar every week. Hopefully, that will be enough of a reminder to stop, reflect, and write about the week. So here it goes.
I do plan to post a few more times and share some things that have occurred since the beginning of the school year. For starters, let's talk about this week. My weekly post will be long since it is a summary of our week and a lot happens in the media center in a week.
We had CoGAT testing on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. This led to numerous classes being unable to visit during their normal time. I led the charge and began reschduling classes. I had planned some great activities and did not want any students to miss out.
Kindergarten
We are still working on making Mr. Wiggle happy by taking care of our books and using shelf markers. This week I introduced the SMARTBoard to classes and we played a matching game with images that made Mr. Wiggle happy and sad. Students are always fascinated by the SMARTBoard and love to be able to use it.
First Grade
Classes were introduced to the Light Bulb Lab and the numerous choices they could make after checking out. We discussed behavior expectations and how to share and work together. With the school-wide theme focusing on growth mindset, students and I talked about how we can make our brains stronger. This connection was made to the different activities in the Light Bulb Lab and how they would help our brains grow.

Second Grade
My L.S.S. (Library Secret Service) agents continued their training this week with some missions to complete. I set up 5 missions that students had to complete. Each student had a partner and an iPad to complete their missions. The missions took them around the media center and asked them a question and gave them a secret code word. Partners shared their answers with each other and placed the secret code word in a google form. One of their missions (and by far their favorite) was to take a picture for their L.S.S. ID badges. I had a bucket of agent glasses that they could wear and a background for the picture. Before students began their missions, we discussed how to be a good partner, how to handle the iPad and tips for taking a good picture. Second graders did a good job with the activity, but I did realize we need to use the iPads in more things for them to become more familiar.

As for the upper grades, it was busy with them as well. I worked with third grade classes on researching their questions hey had created about rocks and minerals. It was fun to show them some of our new resources that had plenty of information on their topic. Fourth graders were recording their book commercials using Flipgrid. Fifth graders focused on their Accelerated Reader goals and trying to read one million words!
It's time to gear up for next week!
